My name is Lewis ("Lou")
LaRicchia and I am the Democratic candidate for Florida State Representative for
District 56. I have been helping and fighting for others most of my adult life.
Among these fights/initiatives are:
-
Serving in the United States Navy during Vietnam
-
Representing Union members in disputes, etc.
-
Fighting for Veteran's benefits
-
Helping people with their Homeowners' Association issues
-
Fighting for Hillsborough County residentsregarding public access to
television programming production
-
Helping Hillsborough County government with policies and procedures
These are the initial issues I
have identified that Florida residents need someone in Tallahassee fighting for.
However, I will not stop there ... there are many more issues affecting Florida
Residents that need an honest, hard working Representative in Tallahassee to
fight for and get things done. I commit
that I will use every bit of energy I have to fight for Florida residents and
specifically District 56 residents during my tenure as State Representative.
Should you have an issue to
where I may assist, please email me at

About Me I was born and raised
in Long Island, New York and am the oldest of 9 children in a Catholic family.
Growing up in a large family has prepared me for understanding differences of
opinions and helping resolve issues. It is this foundation that has enabled me
throughout my life to look at issues fairly and come to resolve quickly.
As a young adult, I served in
the United States Navy aboard the USS Independence during the Vietnam War. After
my public service in the Navy, I ended up working for the Long Island Railroad
as a pipe fitter and was eventually elected as Chairman of the Union, Local
Union 138. While Chairman, I attended Suffolk Community College studying Labor
Relations along with Music as an elective.
As Chairman, I negotiated
contracts with the Railroad and represented the Union in dealings with
government officials along with representing Union members in disputes,
negotiations, discipline proceedings, and accident cases.
Additionally, I fought
and won in Federal Court the attempt to dissolve the Local Union 138 into Local
Union 149, where Local Union 149 did not have local representation in contract
negotiations ... it was me representing the Local Union 138 against a team of 14
attorneys and I prevailed, which allowed my constituents to continue to receive
the benefits of local representation in negotiations, disputes, etc.
As
Chairman, I was able to hold the railroad to their contractual agreements and
benefited Union members when those agreements were violated. With my successes
as Chairman, I was able to provide my constituents with a better Union, better
pay, better benefits, and resolve to the railroad in breaking contractual
agreements.
I moved to Holmes Beach,
Florida in 1989. In 1992, I moved to a Deed Restricted Community with a
Homeowners' Association in Valrico, FL where I am now and, thus, I have been a
resident of District 56 Hillsborough county from 1992 to the present. Being a
member of a Homeowners' Association, I have witnessed and became aware of the
many problems HOA members face on a routine basis. I have been a strong advocate
for Homeowners' Association members, helping members with disputes and fighting
for members' rights. I have attended Town Hall meetings by government officials
and provided suggestions to assist the HOA members in dealing with these out of
control Board members. I have also helped several HOA members take back their
HOA by recalling the Board of Directors.
Other efforts I have fought
for are Veterans' benefits, Hillsborough County resident access to public
television production, Hillsborough County professional licensing processes, and
adherence to policies and procedures by subordinate Boards within the
Hillsborough County Government. One of these was when I attended and provided
advice on administrative proceedings of the Human Relations Board of
Hillsborough County, which initiated the Human Relations Board to dramatically
change its policies and procedures on how it approaches cases brought before it.
In addition to taking an
active role within the community and helping others, I have also taken a role in
communications so that others have the opportunity to obtain information. I
hosted a radio show on Tan Talk radio where I had guests speaking on various
topics including Homeowners' Associations, Depleted Uranium and Gulf War
Syndrome, Alzheimer's Disease, Star Wars Missile Defense Systems, and Cuban
relations. I also produced television shows on Homeowners' Associations.
I am also active in several
social and community service organizations such as the elks club, Italian club
and the eagles club.
